I get what you're saying -- and your friend's son sounds like an amazing kid.
As far a right-wingnuts, Savage does tend to be one of the worst. My lefty radio heroes Mike Malloy, Randi Rhodes, and Thom Hartmann hold him up to censure fairly regularly. The thing about these "shock jocks" is that they never bother to consider the targets of their rants as "people" at all, whether we are talking about gays and lesbians, women, racial minorities, or disabled people.
They are indeed idiots, with a stunted definition of humanity.
